Just wanted to give a shout-out today to all the seniors who are anxiously awaiting those early admission decisions which are starting to trickle in this week. If you’re looking for ways to a) distract you from the impending news, b) celebrate getting in, c) console yourself over a defer or rejection, or d) just avoid working on those regular decision apps, check out some of my picks for weekend diversions.

1. Get a head-start on your Oscar pool research.  You could spend an entire weekend in the theater checking out these movies currently creating Oscar buzz: Rachel Getting Married, Slumdog Millionaire, Frost/Nixon, and Milk.

2. Cross some items off your holiday shopping list without even leaving your house.  Check out these great online gift guides with ideas sure to please everyone.

3. Work out your anxieties or frustrations on a holiday run!  Find local 5K and 10K races on Active.com.  Or if you’re in the Los Angeles area, come run the 31st Annual Santa Monica-Venice Christmas Run with me tomorrow!

No, that’s not her latest film or SNL role, but Amy’s real life web media venture “Smart Girls At the Party.” Amy hosts these fun and empowering webisodes that feature tween guests talking about their life and talents.  Check out the premiere featuring 10 year old writer Cameron (and special guest appearances from Kristen Wiig and Will Arnett!).  I heart Amy P!

No, not the tv show…although, yes, I am obsessed and so thankful the storylines have had a makeover from last season!  But, really in the spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday I just want to bring attention to the everyday heroes who have had an impact on all our lives.  CNN is running a special tomorrow night (11/27/08) hosted by Anderson Cooper that celebrates the top 10 CNN heroes of 2008.  These are ordinary individuals who have made an extraordinary difference in their communities by improving access to education, impacting the lives of the homeless, rebuilding Katrina-ravaged New Orleans, providing medical help to those who could not otherwise afford it, and the list goes on. You can watch  “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute” Thanksgiving night at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

And in between the turkey and the pumpkin pie, don’t forget to say thank you to someone who has made a difference in your life.  Happy Thanksgiving!

After months of watching presidential debates, days reading through all the propositions, and hours standing in long lines at the polls, you’ve finally let your voice be heard and have the “I Voted” sticker to show for it. But that’s not all you have…in true American spirit, your “I Voted” sticker gets you more than just the satisfaction of knowing you participated in the political process.  So what else is your vote worth?

So wear it proudly, and cash in on the rewards of voting.  And if you haven’t gone to the polls yet, hurry before they run out of donuts.
