On the site students can buy and sell textbooks, find housing near campus, browse for class notes, search for jobs and internships, and connect with other students at your school. Seems kinda like Craigslist - university style.

My favorite feature is that once you log-in and create an account, you can upload your own school calendar and start receiving daily reminders to help you stay on top of your college admission deadlines.  It’s like having your own personal college counselor, and it doesn’t cost a thing!  Hmmm…anyone going to develop an iPhone app for this?

This fall New York University debuts a new course “Guitar Heroes (and Heroines): Music, Video Games and the Nature of Human Cognition” which aims to tackle the topic of why human beings invest so much time into playing video games, according to the New York Post.
The class, which according to its instructor will focus primarily on the effect of video games and human cognition, proved to be so popular it reportedly already has a waiting list for upcoming semesters.

VH1 Save the Music and Do Something are calling on you to lead the fight for music education in schools.  From now until October 16th, take action — tell everyone to “Save Our Music!” Organize an instrument drive. Create viral videos on what music means to you. Run an awareness campaign in your school. For more project ideas check out the “Save Our Music!” website.

So this year I’ve decided to give up a few of my rarely used kicks in hopes that someone else will put them to good use.  An organization doing a really fantastic job of collecting and distributing new and gently worn shoes is Soles4Souls, a non-profit whose mission is to give the gift of shoes to people in need both in the U.S. and abroad.

They’ve made it easy to donate, too, by partnering with large and small businesses across the country.  You can find a participating donation center just by entering your zip code on their website, or you can even host a shoe drive at your school if you want to get others involved in your altruistic endeavor.

From disaster relief to homeless shelters, summer camps for disadvantaged children and orphanages, there are millions of people across the globe in need of shoes, and this is just one small way that we can help.  So, goodbye, cute pink running shoes circa 2001 (and not-so-cute old school orange Pumas)- here’s hoping you make some other feet happy.

If you have time to read one more book before the end of summer, I definitely recommend this one. I already can’t wait to read the second book in the series Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games), which comes out in September.
