Hi, I’m Jaye, and I remember feeling totally overwhelmed when I was a high school student applying to college. I didn’t have a lot of help from my parents or my guidance counselor, and when I did finally graduate from college and worked in admissions at Columbia University I found out that I wasn’t the only one you felt clueless about the whole college admissions process.

So I set out to help students understand how and where to go to college. And I’ve been lucky enough to produce a TV show about the process (The Scholar), write a guidebook (Seventeen’s Guide to Getting Into College), and now I’m producing a documentary film about students who are first in their families to go to college (www.firstgenerationfilm.com).

I’m really passionate about education–if you couldn’t tell already–and I think everyone should have the opportunity to go to college. So I’m here to answer your questions big or small about getting into, paying for, and choosing the right college.

  1. Jaye, your film looks amazing. I work with many first gen college applicants through the AVID program at the local high school. This is a tremendously important issue, and it does not get the attention it deserves. I want to see your film!
